Beer "hunting" and accomodation

My husband and I are planning on going to Brussels for one night. We both love beer that is why we want to do a side trip to Belgium from our main destination Paris. We%26#39;ve already tasted quite a few of Belgium Beers (Mort Subite, Maredsous, Orval, Duvel,etc.). We heard that Faro beer was a Brussels%26#39;s local style. We are curious to try it. So my question is if you have one day in Brussels where would you stay and where would you go out for the best beers. We thought of staying near la Grande Place. We also thought of visiting Le Musée Bruxellois de la Gueuze! Any suggestions are welcome.

Well, anything around the Grand Place would certainly be central. You%26#39;ll have no shortage of places to try the local brews. (Have to admit I never heard of %26quot;Faro%26quot;, but I%26#39;m not Belgian so what do I know lol!)

Anyway, with only one night, you might want to check out Delirium.

http://www.deliriumcafe.be/ they have over 2,000 beers and a nice atmosphere. (Definitely a lot of tourists, but a nice place nonetheless)

Musee de la Gueuze...hmmm, I went the first time I was in Brussels and didn%26#39;t think much of it. It%26#39;s in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood down by Gare Midi. At the time I think it was €4 to do a self-guided walk, followed by a small glass of beer...and no refills!

I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it, especially on a one-night visit.

Plenty of other places in Brussels though...try La Mort Subite (bar) also.

Hi,

In the %26quot;Mort Subite%26quot;, the Faro is served. It is a kind of %26quot;young%26quot; Kriek%26quot;. Typical Brussels beer, you will not find it often in other places in Belgium.

Lots of cafes around the Grand PLace!

Coming from Paris on Thalys, you will arrive at Gare du Midi but I would not advise you to stay near there, instead take a local train one stop to Gare centrale and stay around there, which is near the Grand%26#39; Place (e.g. Novotel off Grand%26#39; Place..). Delirium and La Mort Subite are both close by: the first in Impasse de la fidélité at the bottom end of rue des Bouchers (the end furthest away from the Galeries), for the second if you go through the Galeries St. Hubert from the Grand%26#39; Place end, go out the back and across the road, you will see it on your right.

The Poechenellekelder right by the Manneken Pis also offers Faro and is the only place I know of that provides the bill in Bruxellois.

For dinner, Belga Queen - in rue du Fossé aux Loups near the Opera House - has a selection of dishes made with Belgian beers and you can even select a completely beer-themed menu, see www2.resto.be/belgaqueen/default.cfm…

I can%26#39;t help as regards the Gueuze museum, except to say that it%26#39;s a working brewery. There%26#39;s also a brewing museum in the GP itself, which includes a beer in the price of the entrance ticket: selection changes regularly so I don%26#39;t know what you will get.

This might help brusselsinternational.be/wabxlint/…

faro is a lambic beer into which dark sugar has been added, it is quite flat and a bit of an acquired taste it has no fruit mascerated or essence unlike. In british tems it is about as common hewre as mild is there.

Mort subite has it on draft but the best is drei fonteinen. You could go the cantillon brewery and try theirs.

Spinnekopke in Rue jardin aux fleurs is the best beer restaurant i have been to.

On belgaqueen i went with my wife for lunch last week after hearing many good reports and was extremely disappointed. lunch cost 96 euros and was served slowly in a barn like converted bank where if either of us leaned back in our chairs we couldnt hear each other unless we shouted. Food was average and cold.

however the oysyter bar at front looked good and the menu for it was far more interesting and it had many good beers including unfiltered palm which i ahve only had at the brewery before. that is worth trying, particularly if you are not regular if you know what i mean.

Near Grand Place would be great to stay. There are many hotels. From expensive to not so expensive. For

I liked very much a cafe at Brussels that served a lot of kinds of beers. I don%26#39;t remember the name, it%26#39;s big and difficult but it%26#39;s next to Mannekin Pis. You will find! The interior is very nice decorated. Mannekin Pis is everywhere!

I liked Kwak beer, served in its traditional glass! And Leffe beer, in every color !!!!! You could also try blanc beers, they are light and delicious. I%26#39;ve tried one made at Brugges (difficult name again!!!!).

I hope I help you a little even my amnesia at difficult names!!!!

Have a really nice time at Brussels. They are AMAZING

Thanks everyone! Your suggestions are very helpful. It is now confirmed! We%26#39;re going to Paris at the end of February! We will certainly go to Brussels, we can%26#39;t miss the opportunity. I checked the hotels and it seems that the prices go down during the weekend. So I guess we will go on a Friday and stay at the Novotel off Grand Place. I read in another post that we should reserved the train (thalys) ahead, but I%26#39;m not too sure, If it is the case how far ahead? I really can%26#39;t wait to try Faro. I love the Mort Subite Gueuze, so I would think I will like the Faro. We also thought of going to Brugge or Antwerp for a %26quot;quick dip%26quot;, but it might be too much for the little time we have.

We%26#39;re back from Paris for about 2 weeks already. As planned we went to Brussels for a night. We just loved it there. We stayed at the Best Western near Grand%26#39;Place as I could get a night for free with my airmiles. The location was great. As suggested we tried faro. I really liked it. We went to the Delirium and Mort Subite café. My favorite place was The Poechenellekelder (Silver greece this is the place near Mannekin Pis with the long name). We went twice. The beer selection is just amazing and each beer is served in its proper glass (I wish it was the same in North America)! I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and directions: it was very easy to find Delirium, Mort Subite and The Poechenellekelder. My husband was impressed with my great sense of directions! We will surely go back to Belgium for a longer visit. I can%26#39;t wait :-)
