I wanted to eat at L%26#39;Ecailler du Palais Royal but decided it is just too expensive...for this trip anyway :-).
I%26#39;ve read good things about La Cap and was about to make a reservation but, although it looks nice in the pictures I saw, I think it%26#39;s more %26quot;modern%26quot; then what I%26#39;m looking for.
Are there any good restaurants in the same price range as La Cap (or maybe somewhere in between La Cap and L%26#39;Ecailler du Palais Royal) that have a %26quot;midevil%26quot; atmosphere (around the center of Brussels)?
I was also wondering where the the best place to get a set of beer glasses might be. I%26#39;m particularly interested in getting a couple of %26quot;Kwak%26quot; glasses and maybe a set of 8-10 trappiste (for lack of a better description) glasses.
I%26#39;ve searched on both these topics but couldn%26#39;t come up with anything specific.
Thanks.

There%26#39;s a beer and beer glass shop called Biertempel in the rue du Marché aux Herbes near the Grand%26#39; Place, which is the street the Tourist Office is on. If by any chance they don%26#39;t have them I know a place that will do but it is a bit of a trek from the centre; you would have to get a 95 bus from Bourse to the stop called Parnasse, take the next turning on the right (ch. de Wavre) and follow that street round to the right. It%26#39;s called Beermania and the address is Chaussée de Wavre, 174-176, 1050 Bruxelles (Ixelles), tel. 02/512.17.88, e-mail beermania@skynet.be, website http://www.beermania.be.
I can%26#39;t think of any restaurant with what I would call a medieval atmosphere, the closest might be T%26#39;Kelderke which is actually in the Grand%26#39; Place, in a basement below the Hotel St. Michel.
Or maybe you would like In t%26#39;Spinnekopke, see http://www.spinnekopke.be/baseFR.html and if you click on the 2nd character at the top of the page you will find the menu.

Thanks once again for the advice.
I was able to find some pictures from T%26#39;Kelderke and it looks like it has a special atmosphere BUT...there is something that really appeals to me about In t%26#39;Spinnekopke.
I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s the music playing on their website or what, but it seems to have an extremely cozy, authentic, inviting atmosphere (not that all the other good restaurants aren%26#39;t authentic).
Eventhough most of the site is available in english, the menu isn%26#39;t(?). Now all I have to do is translate the menu...Thank god for %26quot;Babelfish%26quot; (a pretty good translation site for those who might not know) !
Can you tell me where it is located (and how far it is from Le Meridien)? I couldn%26#39;t find the address on their website.

Never mind. I found it.

I thought it a most annoying website, myself, but the music playing on it is Jacques Brel singing %26quot;Le Plat Pays%26quot; (the flat country, a song about Belgium of course). I think a lot of the menu is understandable in English, e.g. steak, scampi, sole, but be careful with automatic translation sites: for example fondus aux fromage doesn%26#39;t translate as cheese fondue but cheese croquettes (the Dutch version is a good guide here).
Also, as you were asking about the price of beer, if I%26#39;m not mistaken, I take it you found their beer menu, http://www.spinnekopke.be/baseFR.html! Of course you pay more in a restaurant than in a café.
A tip for looking up the location of any restaurant in Belgium is to use the site www.resto.be, which has a location map for each one, in this case: www.resto.be/ware/details.jsp?businessid=1065

Thanks, that%26#39;s where I found it actually.
Thanks for the name of the artis as well, although when I said something about it appealed to me, it wasn%26#39;t necessarily the musik itself (my 5 and 7 year old didn%26#39;t like it :-), or the web design for that matter. But it was the first site that really made me really %26quot;feel%26quot; like I%26#39;m going to Belgium...and that had to do with the Folk-like music in french.
That said, I%26#39;m still having a heck of a time trying to decide where to eat! I sent a mail to In t%26#39;Spinnekopke on saturday, but haven%26#39;t heard back yet.
We only have the one evening for a really nice dinner so it HAS to be as perfect as possible.
I decided not to worry so much about price (L%26#39;Ecailler du Palais Royal wouldn%26#39;t be out of the question) and even though I think %26quot;old%26quot; would be somehow more romantic, I have nothing against %26quot;modern%26quot;. I also fell over %26quot;Le Chaletde la Foret%26quot; in an older post and it looks really nice (and modern), although it%26#39;s not in the center of Brussels.
I guess I%26#39;ll do a little more searching and see what happens.

I got a reply from In t%26#39;Spinnekopke and, unfortunatly, they are closed all of march due to a kitchen fire.
They recommended a couple of alternatives, one of them being Aux Armes de Bruxelles, so... I decided on the safe choice, being that it is convenient and has also been recomended on this site several times.
I made my reservations yesterday and was even able to choose our table (they have a very good virtual tour on their website with table numbers listed).
It%26#39;s just a couple of weeks away now. I%26#39;m really looking forward to this trip!
