Beeches nr to Brugge

Hi,

We are returning to Brugge for 3 days this coming weekend 5th May.

I know the coast in not too far from Brugge therefore was wondering if anyone could recomend a beach near to Brugge, how to easily get there etc. Hopefully the place will have something else to offer besides the beach itself so that we can have a look around while we are there.

Regards

Paul

The Belgian coast is very built-up, take a look at eupedia.com/belgium/belgian_seaside.shtml.

The nearest place on the coast to Brugge is Zeebrugge which is Brugge%26#39;s port, and linked to it by bus and train, it does have a beach, on which I once spent a couple of hours watching the windsurfers, but I don%26#39;t think it will fit your requirements, therefore what you will probably want to do in Zeebrugge is take the coastal tram somewhere else.

Depending on what sort of things you like to do, 2 possibilities suggest themselves, namely Knokke-Heist right in the North, which has the Zwin nature reserve (and a lighthouse, at Heist), and Ostende in the middle (South) which is a sizeable town. However, you might want to check out events in different places on here to see if anything else appeals: www.flemishcoast.co.uk/dekust/index2.aspx…

See also http://www.dekusttram.be/pages2/home.html: for the coastal tram route, click on the third icon from the left at the bottom.

I think you can buy a De Lijn day pass for €5 or €6, I suggest you ask in Brugge when you are there. There is a De Lijn information office on the square in front of Brugge railway station, which is also where most of their buses depart from, or you can phone 059 56 53 53 (from outside Belgium, +32-59...).

I%26#39;d go straight to Knokke (a 19 min. train ride from Brugge), rent a bike and cycle along the beach boulevard all the way to the Zwin, then through the Zwin to (for instance) Cadzand in the Netherlands. Have waffles at Marie Siska (Zoutelaan, Knokke-Zoute) on your return and spend some time on the beach.

If you like shopping for luxury items, Knokke-Zoute is the place to be.

I have been to Ostend before, for a week in fact back in 1985, i had a good time back then on what was my first trip abroad, not sure if Ostend and the size of it is what i am looking for now though.

Knokke seems the place to go by the sound of it., and doesn%26#39;t appear to be that far.

Thanks for the replies
