Thalys - Ascention Day

Can anyone tell me if the Thalys train will run as normal on 17th May - Ascention Day?

I will be travelling from Schipol Airport to Brussels Garde Midi. My flight arrives early morning, about 9.15 am I think............so I would want to take the next available train from Schipol.

Help appreciated, many thanks

The normal situation in continental Europe is that on public holidays trains run according to the Sunday schedule but 17 May is a Saturday and I can see no difference between the timetable for that day and the normal one. Anyway you will have to BOOK Thalys in advance as it%26#39;s reservation only, so on www.thalys.com you would have to select the train and time you want. For example, there is a Thalys at 10:13 arr. Bruxelles-Midi at 12:35.

If you don%26#39;t want to book in advance, you can of course take the normal Intercity train which leaves Schiphol at 42 minutes past each hour (also on 17/5) and is only a few minutes slower than Thalys, plus this gives you the option of getting off in Brussels at Gare centrale or Gare du Nord as well as Gare du Midi.

Thanks for your reply

The 17th is actually a Thursday but sounds as if it won%26#39;t make a great deal of difference

Many thanks

FYI--My husband and I were in Brussels and Bruges during Ascention Day last year (by accident--not a US hoilday). Bruges was PACKED and every cashs machine in Brussels and Bruges was out of cash. The concierge at the Amigo (where we stayed) literally walked me all over Brussels looking for an working machine. The only cash machine had cash was the one in the casino (of course!)

Just be forwarned and bring plenty of cash.

P.S. The Amigo was fantastic!
