Westvleteren and private guide to get there

Interested in going to St. Sixtus/Westvleteren to pick up beer on August 11th. Will need a priviate car to take us there from Bruge and drop us off in Ghent. Any advise or information about pickup beer would be appreciated. We know we need an appointment.

I can%26#39;t help as regards the beer issue, but for a chauffeur-driven car (I don%26#39;t think you really need a private GUIDE as such), see http://www.jrlines.com/country/Belgium.html or perhaps http://www.saccatours.com/europe/belgium.html

You could contact a place like De Bier Tempel in Brugge (ask for Regnier) for help getting to Westvleteren. Also use a site like Beer Advocate and it%26#39;s %26quot;Belgium%26quot; Forum for help...

I agree with the previous reply: you may not need a %26quot;tour gude%26quot; per se; but I think you do need to know your car%26#39;s license number in advance. This is due to heightened restrictions on buying Westvleteren, imposed by the monks (of course due to it%26#39;s popularity %26amp; inherent value).

Have you checked that they are brewing at that time? and that beer is available for purchase. You must do so in advance or you will waste your entire trip there.

Now I don%26#39;t know about the guide, BUT I was a member of a beer forum one time a year or so back when we made our own Belgian style beer and this is a VERY sought after product. The monks only sell the beer on certain times and days and there is a limit on the number of cartons you can buy. I understand there are queues (not to rival Le Louvre perhaps).

Here is the link:

There is a cafe across the road where you can sample the beers.

So, good luck!

  1. The period spent in a new place together with private tour guides seems to be a good expense, hence the article says reality
