does anyone know is there any direct buses from bruges to Lille? or would i have to go into brussels and get a train from here?

There are no direct or even indirect buses but there are direct trains between Brugge and Lille which take about 1h20. At certain times you would have to change in Kortrijk, although this need not be slower, on the other hand being routed via Brussels and Tournai takes twice as long.
I would suggest you put (from) Brugge and (to) Lille-Flandres and your intended date and rough time of travel into http://www.b-rail.be/int/E/
