Hello,
We were going to stay in Brussels but after reading Rick Steves%26#39; book, we thought Bruges looked more interesting to us. We plan on either taking a day trip to Brussels and back from Bruges or stopping in Brussels for a couple of hours on the way from Bruges to Amsterdam. Which option to you think is best?
Thanks in advance!

If your goal is just to look around the Grand Place area and have a nice lunch, then a few hours on the way to Amsterdam would work.
There are a number of sights and museums that are worth visiting, but that would require more time. A daytrip into Brussels would give yo the opportunity to experience much more of the city.

I would suggest you check what exactly you (most) want to see in Brussels, e.g. on
tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g188644-Activiti…
Then you will have some idea of how much time it is %26quot;worth%26quot; spending in Brussels - bearing in mind that the Grand%26#39; Place, Galeries St. Hubert and Manneken Pis are very close to each other and just down the hill from the Gare centrale, where the Intercity trains to/from Amsterdam stop (but not Thalys which only uses Gare du Midi).

The area of Brussels that is worth seeing is very small but you definitely need at least a day to truely enjoy it. The central tourist area is so wonderfully quaint that you%26#39;ll want to sit down and enjoy one of their great beers. It%26#39;s a city that you want to to stroll through rather than rush around at breakneck speed just to %26quot;see%26quot; the sights. Enjoy it!

Thanks everyone! I will talk it over with my husband. That was a good link. We didn%26#39;t know about the Cantillon Brewery. Is that far to get to? Any good? My husband is a beer fiend but we are going to other breweries around Europe.

I love their beer, but not so much the brewery tour. It%26#39;s near the Gare Midi which isn%26#39;t the best part of town. Although in the daytime I didn%26#39;t feel particularly unsafe or anything.
But at least on my visit, it was € 3-€4 to go in and walk around with a flyer explaing the brewing process. And they weren%26#39;t actually brewing at that time..followed by a rather small %26quot;free%26quot; glass of beer with no refills.
If you weren%26#39;t already going to other breweries, and/or if you had more than a day or two in Brussels, I%26#39;d say maybe go for a visit. But otherwise I%26#39;d give it a miss.

Thanks for the advice...we won%26#39;t go to that brewery!
