Brussles ( Aug 23-24)

My buddy and I arrive in Brussles on the 23rd pretty early in the morning..We have chosen a hostel that is in the city center, and we are wondering what two young 21 year olds will do in brussels.

I am a fan of palaces, chocolate, beer, and snails...but not so much on Art.

What do you all recommend we do?

Are there good street vendors with cheap snails?

Beer?

I also have heard that brussels ( shuts down ) on weekends, so will friday night be a bust?

Thanks,

-D

You will be too late to visit the Royal Palace, which is open mid-July to mid-August, but you can look at it from the outside. You can also visit the remains (stables etc. ) of Charles V%26#39;s palace, entrance is via the Belvue Museum to the right of the Royal Palace, from there you go downstairs and take a corridor that passes below Place Royale.

Chocolate shops are dealt with exhaustively in some previous questions, in any case you won%26#39;t have any trouble finding them. For beer there are at least 3 places you should try that are all within 5-10 minutes walk of the Grand%26#39; Place, which are A la Mort Subite (not far from the end of the Galeries St. Hubert furthest away from the Grand%26#39; Place), Poechenellekelder (by the Manneken Pis) and Delirium Café (as it happens, by the Jeanneke Pis, in Impasse de la Fidélité off rue des Bouchers, near rue Grétry); this last is a cellar bar with 2000+ beers on the menu.

I hadn%26#39;t heard that Brussels shuts down on weekends, except of course from the business point of view. Friday night is a busy time for the cafés and bars around Place St. Géry, down the street that starts next to O%26#39;Reilly%26#39;s, opposite the Bourse.

There are street vendors of snails in the Bourse area, one often outside O%26#39;Reilly%26#39;s, otherwise walk down the nearby rue St. Catherine: take the street to the right of McDonalds and continue across at the lights, at the end turn right and in the little square there is usually a snail vendor.

Friday night after 11PM you should go the club Parc Savoy. To get there, jump on the 94 tram (which you will see from the avenue Louise) direction Hermann Debroux. Exit at Marie Jose. From there you will see the club, it is in a huge house and there will be lots of cars around. They have dancing and drinking until 4-5 AM. Clubs start late here (like in New York) so don%26#39;t come too early or you will be disappointed.
