Brugge

My wife and I are going to The Netherlands in June. We will be in Eindhoven for a week on business. I would like to leave on Friday late afternoon and go to Brugge and stay for 3 nights (Fri,Sat,Sun).

What is the best way to get there without renting a car? My plans are to stay all day in Brugge on Saturday and do a day trip to Gent on Sunday and than spend Monday back at Brugge before going back to Amsterdam on Monday night for our flight back on Tuesday.

Does anybody have any recommendations as to where to stay in Burgge. Would appreciate any help and any suggestions.

You can get from Eindhoven to Brugge by train in 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours, changing twice, either at Maastricht and Liège or Dordrecht (or elsewhere) and Antwerp. There are plenty of trains on Friday evening, e.g. leaving at 17.45 and arriving at 21.58. I can%26#39;t tell you the price as you will be starting on Dutch Railways (see www.ns.nl) but you won%26#39;t qualify for the Benelux weekend fare because if you are going to Amsterdam afterwards it obviously can%26#39;t be a return ticket from/to Eindhoven.

It only takes half an hour on the train from Brugge to Gent-Sint-Pieters and on a Sunday you can get a return fare for €6.20.

From Brugge to Amsterdam-Centraal takes about 4 hours via either Antwerpen-Berchem or Brussels, i.e. changing once. You can check the timetable for yourself on http://www.b-rail.be/int/E/.

Thanks for the information. I have continued to read the postings and found some web sites for hotels. Are train prices cheaper on the weekend? I saw some prices change after a certain hour of the day. We could stay in Enidhoven on Friday and leave first thing in the morning on Saturday. Of course we loose 4 hours of time in Brugge traveling but is it worth it for the savings.

Yes, train travel is cheaper on weekends.

A weekend return Eindhoven - Brugge costs 40 euro against 66.80 euro full fare. As far as I can see on the Dutch railways%26#39; website (www.ns.nl - international travel), the weekend ticket is valid as of Friday until Sunday (not Monday, unfortunately). It%26#39;s called Mid-Flex.

I went to the Dutch railway site but it was in Dutch. Go figure.

I couldn%26#39;t understand it to find out when the rates dropped on Friday.

I also wanted to find out if there is a senior discount. I am 60 years old. A guess this question applies to the Belgium train as well.

Also will I be able to buy the ticket in Eindhoven for the whole trip or buy a seperate trip when I get on the Belgium train.

Weekend fare: you can leave on either Friday (the whole Friday), Saturday or Sunday - return on Sat or Sun.

Senior discount: I checked out the various discounts but they don%26#39;t mention a senior discount. There is one for children and youngsters. Another point: senior is usually only from 65, so you%26#39;re too young anyway.

You can buy a ticket in Eindhoven for the whole trip. It%26#39;s easy and it will also be cheaper than buying separate tickets.
