Gare du Midi - Heysel?

Hi,

I arrive at Gare du Midi and have to rush to Art Brussels (at Place de Belgique at the big Brussels Expo centre) to start working immidiately! I%26#39;d like to be taking the Metro but am worried that this will be a very long journey- does anyone know, approximately, how long this journey would take a) by taxi b) by Metro? Thank you!

a) It depends on what time you arrive and whether this is during the rush hour or not; it should be possible to do it in 20 minutes but taxi could easily get delayed somewhere.

b) I%26#39;d allow about 45 minutes, taking the underground tram (e.g. no. 3) to De Brouckère, then changing (2-minute walk by travelator) to the metro and from there it%26#39;s about 12 stops, see www.stib.irisnet.be/FR/40000Fre/M/40000F.htm (direction Roi-Baoudouin).

Since it doesn%26#39;t involve changing and takes about the same amount of time, I would prefer, myself, to do it by 81 tram which leaves from %26quot;rue couverte%26quot;, just outside the station, not from the metro level - but you would have to go down to the metro level anyway to buy tickets if you want a multi-trip ticket, as I don%26#39;t think there are any machines by the tram stop. You can buy a ticket in the tram but it will cost you €2 instead of €1.50 from a machine/metro ticket office.

Thank you! I have found all of your posts in the forum extremely helpful and detailed (I have been looking up restaurants etc)
