day trip to flanders

I would like some information on day trips to flanders and the first world war trenches

Meant to say that I will be staying in Bruges for a few days

a little vague....Do you want to drive around yourself? or do you want to take a small group tour? if the latter look up Quasimodo Tours who leave from Bruges most days in a small minibus... http://www.quasimodo.be/

if you want more specific info on flanders ww1 stuff i suggest you look at http://www.ieper.be or http://www.visitbelgium.com/worldwar.htm

Err... Brugge is in Flanders, so presumably you mean day trips within Flanders? Or do you mean day trips to the Flanders Fields area around Ieper, which has the well-known %26quot;In Flanders Fields%26quot; museum? If so, this company has one starting from Brugge: http://www.quasimodo.be/

Others probably start from Ieper which you can reach in 1h47 by train from Brugge, changing in Kortrijk. They may be mentioned in previous questions in the Ypres/Ieper forum.

A guided tour may be the best option.

I don%26#39;t believe that there is a direct train from Brugge to Ieper so you would need to investigate this.

We drove around in our own car the last time we did the Flanders Fields thing, which is great for sightdseeing, but does impact on not being able to sample any of those fine Belgian beers.

If you go to Ieper, make sure that you visit the In Flanders Fields museum.

I would also recommend that you stay for the Last Post under the Menin Gate at 8pm. A very humbling and emotional experience.

Just down the road from Ieper you will find the Hooge Crater museum. This is also worth a visit, as is Sanctuary Wood museum, and TocH in Poperinge.

You may find this website to be of some use to you:

Cheers!
