My buddy and I are coming to Belgium in late August and are wondering how many days to spend in each city.
We are thinking of staying in brussels on the 24th and 25th, then bruges the 25th and 26th.
Then on the 27th train it to Amsterdam from Bruges. What would be the best way to do that?
And is that long enough for 2 young men to get through each of those cities?
Thanks

I%26#39;ve visited Brugge twice. I think it%26#39;s a nice town for a visit, but really you can see most of the main attractions in a day trip from Brussels, it%26#39;s only an hour on the train.
Having said that, someone on another thread pointed out what a nice time they had in the evening after the tourists had all fled back to Brussels or elsewhere, and I didn%26#39;t have that experience so maybe it%26#39;s worth an overnight...
I%26#39;m also not a train expert, so someone can correct me, but I think the train from Brugge to Amsterdam would go back through Brussels anyway? In which case it would make sense just to pick it up there instead of the extra time and expense of getting to Amsterdam from Brugge.

The connection from Brugge to Amsterdam is Gent, not Brussels. Gent s a wonderful town to visit, btw.
It is all a matter of personal taste, of course, but given limited time, I would much rather spend the time in Brugge (or Gent or Antwerp) than in Brussels. Brussles clomes close to shutting down on teh weekends when you will be there. Of course, if you don%26#39;t like crowds, that makdes it better than Brugge (which is a very popular weekend holiday spot). Pay your money, take your choice. :)

I%26#39;ve spent 3 weekends in Brussels in the past 2 years and didn%26#39;t have that experience. What did you find %26quot;shut down%26quot; about it?
I found plenty of dining, entertainment, shopping and cultural options Friday-Sunday.

I, too, don%26#39;t understand what Ab0si means by %26quot;Brussles (=Brussels, note spelling!) comes close to shutting down on the weekends when you will be there%26quot;. We often go on a Sunday and I always find it pretty lively, except when the weather is really bad.
There is something to say for spending the night in Brugge. It is indeed different after the daytrippers have gone. You will get to know the quiet and peaceful Brugge. If you want to go out at night (I mean, discotheques or clubs), you will have more choice in either Gent, Brussel or Antwerpen.
