Trip to Wallonia - Dinant - Durbuy

My husband and I are traveling to Belgium next week. Most of our trip is planned, but we have allotted 3 days to spend in the Wallonia area. Will probably head down to Chimay, hit some abbeys. From my research, it looks like we want to explore Dinant and surrounds and also Durbuy. We enjoy quaint - off the beaten track type of places.

Any recommendations on specific places/things to see and, more importantly, places to stay? We are thinking of 2 nights in one location and the 3rd night in Durbuy.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Angela

Durbuy and Dinant are pleasant enough. Rochefort is also a pleasant small town. Find the boucherie/charcuterie shops and get yourself a picnic with some wild boar, sausages and pate. Head into the woods for walking or to Achouffe for a small brewery tour http://www.achouffe.be/newen/situation.php

The caves at Han are quite interesting - a little touristy but not too bad. There is also a bit of a wildlife park where you can have a look at deer and boar.

From here you are not far from Bastogne, which you may be interested in as Americans. It was the site of a major battle in WW2 and has a good museum on the period.

As for accommodation, I would receommend looking at the tourist website and finding some good bed %26amp; breakfasts

Hi Marmotte: We%26#39;ve been to Achouffe twice before - that type of setting is exactly what we love. We%26#39;ve also toured the Bastone WW2 areas as well, which were quite interesting.

Thanks for the tip on Rochefort - I had also listed that on my list of possibilities...have you been down to the Chimay area? Is that worth doing, or do you have any thoughts?

Thanks,

-Angela
