Day trip to Brugge - suggested itinerary?

We plan to do a day trip to Brugge from Brussels. Can anyone suggest an itinerary - walking or otherwise - that might give us a good overview of Brugge in that short time. We probably won%26#39;t need to look inside museums etc, as we already have a lot of that for other places - but would appreciate any other suggestions on what to see or do, or a nice place to buy chocolates, eat etc. Thank you LS

I%26#39;d suggest taking a canal tour - tney are not too lonmg and you get to see the city from a different viewpoint.

For another viewpoint I%26#39;d walk up the Belfort (Belfry) for the magnificient views over the city.

Other than that I%26#39;d suggest simply arming yourself with a map and walking around (the centre of Bruges is compact and very pretty so you won%26#39;t get too lost and there is always something good to see). The Markt and Burg are good focal points and the Stadhuis in the Burg is worth a visit to see the reconstructed gothic hall. If you do fancy a museum the Groeningmuseum has some fantastic paintings and Onze Kieve Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) is very impressive especially Michaelangelo%26#39;s %26#39;Madonna and Child%26#39;.

Treat yourself to a good meal, sample a couple of lovely Belgian beers , buy some chocolate and you%26#39;ll have had a good day!

Hi,

For sightseeing, I would suggest:

1. Canal boat trip a must.

2. If you follow Hoogstraat, over the canal, down Langstraat you will reach the four windmills.

3. Climbing the Belfy is good fun, it%26#39;s not too difficult as there are a few levels you can stop at to view the sights but make sure you go early to avoid crowds.

4. Go to Our Lady church to see the Michelangelo.

5. Vist Minniewater and the nunnery, the beer museum is also nearby. There are lots of lovely place to stop and have a beer or two.

For food:

1. t%26#39;Gulden Vlies, Mallebergplaats 17 - great for dinner

2. De Torres, Hoogstraat - lunch

3. De Proverie, Mariastraat -teatime

4. Chocolate Line, Simon Stevinplein - the only place for chocolates!

Opposite the shop in the square, there%26#39;s a great cafe for lunch and drinks alfresco. Sorry can%26#39;tremember the name but the head waitress has a cockney/flemish accent!

I hope this helps.

Have a great trip.
