Staying in brussels then on to amsterdam

Hi all.

I shall be going to brussels on the 16th of june flying from london with dirt cheap flights, the flights are to chaleroi airport and i was wondering how far this is from brussels city centre?.

From brussels i shall then be travelling to amsterdam the next day and am not sure what is the best option coach or train? i have checked the coach website and return tickets are 18 euros but can%26#39;t get prices on the train websites? any suggestions or general info.

Any help will be most appreciated thanks.

1) Charleroi Airport is about 80 km from Brussels, the Ryanair bus takes 45-60 minutes to Brussels Gare du Midi.

2) It depends on what you mean by %26quot;best%26quot;, the cheapest is indeed Eurolines coach from Gare du Nord but it takes 4 1/2 hours. When checking the train timetable I would suggest you look for Intercity (IC) trains not Thalys (THA), cost will still depend on exactly when you are going and when returning, for example you can get a Benelux weekend return ticket for €42 if you are travelling in both directions on a Saturday or Sunday, otherwise the normal single fare is more like €50. The B-Rail site won%26#39;t give prices for international trips unless perhaps you register to buy tickets over the internet, but there is a contact button somewhere on the site and they do give price information by phone or e-mail. Note that you cannot reserve seats on IC trains so you don%26#39;t have to book/buy in advance, but can turn up and buy the ticket on the day, or a few days before if you prefer. Also these leave from Gare du Midi, Gare centrale and Gare du Nord while Thalys leaves only from Gare du Midi.

That said, Thalys sometimes runs special offers and there are some cheap fares if bought well in advance, so check www.thalys.com anyway.
