Brussels Hotels

Its our 10th Wedding Anniversary and we are going to Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris.

We will be arriving in Brussels from Antwerp next Thursday and staying for 2 nights.

Any advice where to stay?

What%26#39;s your budget?

My budget is open, expecting a cost of $200-$300.

We want to be centrally located possibly near Grand Place but we also want to be in proximity of good nightlife and Belgian beer drinking. Although what I have heard is you%26#39;re never to far away from that.

We are thinking about Ledixseptieme, Le Meridien, Le Metropole or maybe the Radisson.

I would recommend the Marriott. Just stayed there this weekend and had a great time. It%26#39;s less that 5 mins walk from the Grand Place but out-with the most touristy areas, which is a plus. It%26#39;s situated in the St Gery area which has lots of nice bars and jazz clubs nearby.

If being near the Gare Centrale is a factor, the Méridien is just across the road from it. If you take an IC train rather than Thalys, you can get off at Gare centrale, otherwise if you arrive on Thalys take a local train one stop from Gare du Midi. For Paris you have to leave from Gare du Midi because only Thalys trains now run on that route, and again you can take a local train from Gare centrale to Gare du Midi, the cost is included in your ticket to or from Brussels, which means you can finish/start your journey at any Brussels station linked to the one you arrive at/leave from at no extra cost - provided of course that you travel by train (SNCB).

If you stay at the Marriott, it is on top of Bourse pre-metro station, which is on the other side of the Grand%26#39; Place from Gare centrale, and linked to Gare du Midi and Gare du Nord by underground tram. As the trams are part of the Brussels City transport system (STIB) and not the national railway, you would of course have to pay for the connection by tram (1.50 EUR per trip) and you should also be aware that trams are quite difficult to manage with luggage, most having narrow entrances and several steps up, and nowhere to store luggage inside. So even though it%26#39;s only a few stops on the tram from Gare du Midi to Bourse, if you have luggage I would recommend taking a taxi if you stay at the Marriott..
