I read that there is a holiday on Aug 15 in Belgium and public transportation schedules might be altered. Does anyone know if this will affect train scheduls and if it is going to be hard to get tickets to Amsterdam since they also are having the festival these days?

On public holidays trains run Sunday services, which in Belgium still means there are plenty of them. You can check departures for the date you want on http://www.b-rail.be/int/E/. If you want to go by Thalys, fill in (from) Bruxelles-Midi and (to) Amsterdam-Centraal, for Intercity trains you can also depart from, for example, Bruxelles-Central.
If by %26quot;the festival%26quot; in Amsterdam you mean the Canal Festival, this hardly attracts hordes of visitors from Brussels! But in any case it is only Thalys that requires advance purchase and which will stop selling if they run out of seats on a particular train. You can always buy tickets on Intercity trains, they don%26#39;t guarantee a seat in any case (just like a city bus or metro).
