We have secured hotels in Brugge and Brussels but like to go off the beaten path and discover the more %26quot;untouristy%26quot; parts of Belgium.
We%26#39;ve decided to rent a car and drive around, seeing the sights. What does everyone think about following:
Day 1: From BRU airport
%26quot;Ardennes loop%26quot;
Namur
Dinant
Redu
Bouillon
Orval
Bastogne
La Roche en Ardennes
Back to our Hotel in Brussels
Day 2: Travel to Brugge via A10
Antwerp
Ghent
Oostende (?)
Day 3:
Day in Brugges
Day 4: Travel back to Brussels
Day in Brussels
Any other town/region we should try to see? Locals, thank you for your help!

Do you actually want to see something along the way or do you just want to drive? Your itinerary for days 1 and 2 seems a bit ambitious. For my taste, anyway.

Hi Amboseli,
I think we might stop to see the citadels in Namur and Dinant, the castle in Boullion and the hills in Bastogne.
We are perpelexed as to figure out how to squeze as much as possible into our trip. We%26#39;d like to combine a little of everything. So, so time in the major cities, and some time to see the countryside and smaller towns and sights.
For example, we are not into art and museums a whole lot, so we decided to skip the Royal Arts Musem and others in Brussels.
I know it%26#39;s impossible to see everything in such a short amount of time, similar to a visitor to the USA asking what to do in 4-5 days!
We want to %26quot;whet our whistle%26quot; so we can come back for more of Belgium in the coming years!!!

Day 1: If you take the chairlift up to the citadel in Namur and the little train that goes around the citadel, this will take you at least a couple of hours. So you might do better to merely drive past (or, instead of the chairlift you can drive up the hill to the citadel and just look at it from the carpark) and only visit the citadel in Dinant, which I think has a more spectacular setting and interesting history; although here also, if you want to keep to your itinerary, you may only have the time to go up and come down again, without taking any guided tour.
Day 2: Why would you travel from Brussels to Brugge via A10 if you want to go to Antwerp, Ghent and Oostende? While you could easily spend a day in either, I think you should at least make it half a day, e.g. going in the morning to Antwerp via the N21, A12 and A112 (just under an hour, probably, depending on traffic), and then for the afternoon to Ghent on the R1/E17 (45 mins), then I presume you would be spending the night in Brugge. I would drop Oostende altogether unless there is something you particularly want to see there (if you did have time - which you don%26#39;t! - Ieper would be more interesting).
Day 3: OK although if the weather is nice, at least, you could include Damme; you can do this by boat from Brugge, but the trip is not very exciting and you would see the canal, windmill etc. from the road anyway so you would probably prefer to do it by car.
I don%26#39;t see the point in adding any other towns as you have a rather crowded itinerary already!
