Rick%26#39;s book explains that hotels in Brussels are desperate to sell their rooms on weekends when all of the business travellers are away. Does anyone know whether the same is likely to apply on the Easter weekend? I have no problem showing up at the TI and booking a room the day of on a normal weekend, but I%26#39;m not sure whether a holiday weekend would work the same. Any thoughts?

I don%26#39;t know what Rick%26#39;s book is but it is perfectly true that Brussels hotels OF A LEVEL USED BY BUSINESS PEOPLE have cheaper room rates for Friday and Saturday nights than for other nights, which reflects the fact that most of the customers for the Sheratons, Hiltons, Sofitels, etc. are business people and national officials here for meetings held Monday to Friday (not that the drop is necessarily huge, for instance the cheapest price at a Sheraton this Thursday is 139 EUR, while on Friday it is 105 EUR!). However, it is not true at all of the cheaper hotels and hostels recommended by TA members in the Brussels forum (see list on the left of that forum), which are aimed at tourists, e.g. the Welcome Hotel, Ste. Catherine. These have no reason to drop their prices at weekends.
Either way, I doubt that any level of Brussels hotel will be desperate for customers at Easter, therefore I really would not advise you to leave booking a room until you arrive, if at all possible - there certainly won%26#39;t be any price advantage in doing so: if the hotel you choose offers a weekend rate and you are staying at the weekend, you would get that rate whether you walk in off the street or book in advance.
