Floris Avenue Hotel and safety issue

Hello all TAs:

I am going to Brussels during the mid- Feb by myself and will stay at Floris avenue hotel. After searching the forum, it seems that I have made a wrong chocie of hotel as it is so close to Gare Midi area that is supposed to be %26quot;rough%26quot;. Should I take taxi from the city centre to hotel during the evening (around 8pm)? Has anyone stay this hotel and encountered any safety problems? I am a bit worried now. Btw, how do I transfer from Gare Midi to this hotel?

Thank you so much for the help!

Hi,

In the reviews for this hotel, the most recent poster did not find the area scary at all (though they were not out and about past 10 PM). A cab trip from Gare du Midi is about 7 euros. If you have a lot of luggage, take a cab from the train station. You could walk it but at 8PM in February it could be cold and rainy.

The area is a bit rough but usually safe as long as you take proper precautions. Walk with a purpose, do not hand out any coins to beggars, do not stop if a child comes up to you asking you something (a common gypsy trick). You will be fine.

You can always use the metro from Lemmonier station to get in and out of the city center ( Toison D%26#39;Or/Avenue Louise for shopping, Gare Central for seeing the Grand Place). You can also walk to the Grand Place.

Thank you so much for your help lofa. I will take a common sense for travelling by myself. Just wonder do I have to book a place just for lunch at Michelin rated restuarant in Brussels?

Again, thank you so much for your help!

For dinner some Michelin rated restaurants are booked up months in advance, and while it might not be quite as hard to get a table for lunch, you will still need to book, yes.
