Atomium - is it worth a visit

Hi

I have seen very fixed feeling on the Atomium.

Has anyone visited this recently and would they reccommend a visit.

Are the views from the top worth the entrance fee.

Also has anyone reccomendations on things to do that are different than the usual tourist things.

What do the locals do at the weekend, where do they go?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In my opinion the best thing about the Atomium is the view of it from the outside, especially in the evening. I have been since the renovation, in fact it wasn%26#39;t quite finished at the time. The view from the top is not that wonderful and I was disappointed that the plastic windows of the viewing dome are either still scratched or have got scratched again already. However, as you say (I think) feelings are very mixed, so someone else could give you yet another conflicting opinion, you may have to make up your own mind.

What locals do in Brussels at weekends is no doubt much what people do anywhere in the Western world! They may go to the cinema on Saturday night, the Midi Market (or other local market like the one in Boitsfort) on Sunday morning and to their parents or in-laws for lunch on Sunday (a big thing here) then perhaps for a walk in the afternoon in the forest or in the grounds of the Africa Museum in Tervuren. Of course it also depends on the time of year and what the weather is doing, in the summer many people go to the coast at weekends.
