just got back from brugge

lived up to expectations - great city to just walk around and explore . this forum was really helpful with places to stay and eat, we stayed at the prinsenhof which was central, great rooms and breakfast included - exceptionally helpful and friendly staff.

followed the numerous recommendations on this forum and went to Den Dijver - food, beer and service were all excellent and very good value at 70 euros for two

less impressed by tom%26#39;s diner. girfriend%26#39;s steak was tough and my veggie option advertised as %26quot;wok vegetables with quorn%26quot; was a mass of cauliflower, quorn and mushrooms glued together by a very stringy cheese. i couldn%26#39;t eat it and nor could the girl at the next table. we were then left waiting 45 minutes before they came for our dessert order

i know belgium is not known for its veggie cooking but den dijver and belga queen (in brussels) served starters and mains that were better than i%26#39;ve had in london.

also found a great italian bistro on amandsstratt (just off the markt).

can%26#39;t wait to go back!

Im so glad that you enjoyed Den Dijver.

Filip the head waiter is a superb host.

I love how he gives you information about the beer which he serves you with your food.

I%26#39;m really looking forward to going back there in May for my birthday treat.

Slightly disappointed to hear about Tom%26#39;s Diner though.

We haven%26#39;t eaten there ourselves, but were definitely thinking about trying it out.

Hopefully we will get more posts about it, which might suggest that you were really unlucky to have gone on a bad night.
