Chef Tour Spots to check out on a 2 day visit

I am a single woman traveling alone. I will be in Brussels for just 2 1/2 short and delicious days.

] I look forward to being able to feed my mind and taste buds with the best I can with the culinary arts, cultures, %26amp; Belgium history.

I have been reccomended to stay near the Grand Palace.

Any suggestions?

I would lovethe opinions of a savvy local or frequent visitor.

I would appricate any advice, I have promised to pick up a box of the best Belgium chocolate for a friend at my next stop.

Thank you in advance for you suggestions.

I would second the recommendation to stay near the GRAND%26#39; PLACE - which I presume is what you mean, we don%26#39;t have anything called the Grand Palace although there are a couple of royal palaces. If you look under %26quot;Brussels hotels%26quot; you will find heaps of recommendations by VT members including a number with %26quot;Grand%26#39; Place%26quot; in the title. As you don%26#39;t give any indication of budget it is difficult to pick one for you, but the Méridien is right opposite the Central Station which is convenient if you are coming in from Brussels Airport on the airport train, you would merely have to cross the street from the station.

%26quot;The best%26quot; Belgian chocolatier is probably still Pierre Marcolini, his flagship store is in the Sablon, where you will also find Wittamer (better known as a pâtisserie but their chocolates are excellent and the hot chocolate they serve in the café above the cake shop is the best in Brussels ), together with branches of Godiva and Neuhaus. The original Neuhaus is in the Galerie St. Hubert, where you will also find representatives of many of the other Belgian chains, including my favourite Corné de la Toison d%26#39;Or.

Btw I am sorry to be picky but I don%26#39;t think you would speak of America history and France chocolate, so why Belgium instead of Belgian?

Thank you for your reccomendations they are perfect,

I can%26#39;t wait to try the Hot Chocolate at Wittamer%26#39;s, where are the best frites%26#39; %26amp; Gaufres ?

I am sorry about my mistakes. All i can say is that ist was quite late here when I posted,

I never meant to insult anyone or any culture.

Now how about a few cafes or restaurants for meals, Please local places only, no chains.

Also I am arriving from Amsterdam by train.

The best frites are usually reckoned to come from Maison Antoine in Place Jourdan, down the hill from Schuman metro station. However, I don%26#39;t honestly think it is worth a special trip, most places that serve frites in Belgium serve good ones.

As I have said on here many times before, for waffles the best place in my opinion is the café above Dandoy in the rue Buls/rue de l%26#39;Etuve (street leading to the Manneken Pis), one block from the Grand%26#39; Place.

If you are coming from Amsterdam on an InterCity train you can get off at Gare centrale, if you are on the Thalys it terminates at Gare du Midi and you would have to take a local train one stop to Gare centrale (you don%26#39;t need to buy a ticket though as all trains to Brussels are to any Brussels station).

There are heaps of restaurant recommendations in previous questions and answers in the Brussels forum, I suggest you take a look at those. I would not exclude local chains like Pain Quotidien (there is one in the Sablon) for snacks, or Chez Leon (with Aux Armes de Bruxelles, one of the few recommendable choices in the restaurant street rue des Bouchers) for mussels and fries.

You might want to check out the cafe at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts located near the Sablon (where Marcolini and Wittamer can be found). The chef there was in charge of a Michelen starred restaurant and has put together quite the gourmet menu. You might want to try the small Assiette for 15 euros which has a sampler assortment. There are three places to eat at this musem, the cafe is located next to the gift shop so go to the entrance at the side of the building.

On the Grand Sablon (which is a 10 minute walk uphill from the Grand Place) there are also many other restaurants which are all good. For a casual light meal you can try the Pain Quotidien there, part of a very nice chain (I think there is one located now in NY.)

If you really want to feed your taste buds with the best there is then you should probably try to book a table at one of the Michelin starred restaurants in and around Brussels.
