If you have lots of luggage the best form of transport would be by taxi (I don%26#39;t think it could cost you more than 12 EUR). However, you can also go by metro to Rogier, on line 2 direction Simonis; or if you don%26#39;t have much luggage it%26#39;s 4 stops on the underground tram to De Brouckère, there are several of these going towards Gare du Nord e.g. no. 3, see …irisnet.be/TimeTables/…H0031F.htm.
For metro or tram, at Gare du Midi you follow the signs to the metro (M). When you come down from the Eurostar level you turn right a bit and then left, you will see the signs. You can buy tickets from machines before boarding, the machines have English as one of the language choices, and a single ticket will cost 1.50 EUR per person - irrespective of distance, each ticket is valid for 1 hour%26#39;s travel.
If you take the metro to Rogier, follow signs for the Police Station, these will bring you to the best escalator for the Plaza, which is closer to De Brouckère.
If you take the pre-metro (underground tram) to De Brouckère, see location map on here holidaycityeurope.com/le-plaza-brussels/map.… Although they haven%26#39;t marked metro stations, it%26#39;s more or less where you see the word stargames (I have no idea why!). I think you will probably come out by the UGC cinemas, if you do, look for the Metropole Hotel and make sure to take the street it is on, to your left when looking at the Metropole, the Plaza is a bit further up on the opposite side from the Metropole.

P.S. Before looking at the location map given on the hotel website mentioned in my previous answer, I was going to say that Rogier was also the closest pre-metro station for the underground tram, but that map shows it as closer to De Brouckère. I can now confirm that my original feeling was correct, as I went past it today and it%26#39;s only 1 block from Rogier but 4 from De Brouckère. Therefore whether you go by metro or tram you should get off at Rogier, look for the police station (Police/Politie) and take the exit to the left of that, marked Bd. Adolphe Max. You can just see your hotel ahead of you where the escalator brings you out, it%26#39;s about 100m away.

That%26#39;s brilliant.
Thank you for all your kind help.
