Hi
I am visiting in April (Easter weekend) for a 2 night stay. Is it better to stay in Brussels or Bruges? Hotel wise you get a lot more for your money in Brussels but I have heard that Bruges in a beautiful city.
I am looking for a relaxing weekend with my husband sampling a few of the different beers available.
Thanks in advance
Clare

Either city would be fine for only two days. There is plenty to see in Brussels just make sure you are located in a hotel convenient to the center. If you stay at the Meridien, you will be across the street from central station and within walking distance of all the Brussels attractions. If your two nights includes actually 3 days, you can take the train from Central Station to Brugge (trip time about an hour). You can see most of Brugge in one day.

There is a chocolate festival in Bruges over the Easter weekend....
could that sway you?

My vote is for Brugges. Very romantic. Good food, even better chocolates! I would suggest taking a canal boat tour of the city for some really lovely times.
The old city centre of Brussels (near the Palace Square) is lovely, but the rest of the city is not so great (imo). I thought Brugges was simply charming and lovely walk about it. Hope your trip is lovely.

Hi
There is no comparison. We lived in Antwerp for 4 years and visited both cities many times. Brussels has some lovely buildings but is a huge modern city. The biggest negative with Brussels is most people get lost - even Belgians from other cities find it a very difficult city to navigate.
Brugge however, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. All our visitors loved it. It is very romantic and relaxing. The boat trip is stunning. There is also a little beginhof area on the edge of the city which is very pretty.
The other alternative is to stay in Antwerp (in the old town area) and do a day trip to Brugge. Antwerp is a great place to visit and very lively at night.
Enjoy your trip.
