Bruges - 2 or 3 night stay?

Hello. I have the opportunity to spend a weekend relaxing, not necessarily doing the tourist sights, in Bruges with my fiance in May, but I don%26#39;t know whether I should come Fri - Mon or Fri - Sun? Would 1.5 days be too little to fully enjoy Bruges or should I opt for 2 full days??

I cannot decide between the Pandhotel or Bourgardisch Cruyce or Hotel de Tuilerian??? Please help - any views greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

See my answer to %26quot;Is 4 hours enough ?%26quot;.

Try as much as possible to avoid week-ends since the crowds are even denser than on weekdays.

The most romantic of the hotels you mention is by all means De Tuilerien. It is charming, classy, beautifully located and very expensive.

Sorry for the %26quot;belated%26quot; reply...I%26#39;m new to this forum. In any event, I recommend staying for 2 nights (or more, if you can get away with it!). Even if you aren%26#39;t into the tourist scene, I think you will both enjoy %26quot;relaxing%26quot; in Brugge. It%26#39;s simply a beautiful place. Take a few stolls...borrow a friends%26#39; %26quot;Rick Steve%26#39;s%26quot; guide or just start walking....or biking with your eyes open! Yes, it has it%26#39;s %26quot;tourist traps%26quot; but they are easy to avoid.

Pick up a map at the TI and go check out the windmills...or the lace makers...or just stroll through the old convent%26#39;s gardens...Check out the fine art musuems...go for a tour of the local brewery! Rent bikes and ridel around the outer perimeter of town (or if you feel more energetic, ride up the main canal to the next town (another old port before canals silted up.)

A truely lovely place to stay is the %26quot;Egmond%26quot;...an easy walk from the train station if you are traveling %26quot;light.%26quot; They%26#39;re web site is http://www.egmond.be/index.htm . It%26#39;s a chaming B%26amp;B and the owners are most gracious (they also have a lovely garden that ajoins a public park and views of the %26quot;lake of Love.%26quot;

Enjoy your visit, and say %26quot;Hi%26quot; to the swans for me!

Bruges is a lovely small city which my wife and I have enjoyed on several visits. If you have the time free then 2,3, 4 days in Bruges makes a pleasant relaxing holiday.

The only Hotel you mention that we have stayed in is De Tuilerieen at 7 Dijver. It is a convenient location, does excellent breakfasts and the bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable even though very fussily over-decorated. However cheap it is not.

The food is excellent. we eat very well, particularly at De Stove at 4 Kleine St. Amandstraat for dinner. We greatly enjoyed De Garre, 1 de Garre, a minute alley off Breidelstraat for lunch of lovely beer and a plateful of cheeses or sausages.

Hi, 2 days is a must if you are to experience the city and it%26#39;s fares, (beer is very good!) we stayed recently at the Tuilerian which is ideally located but not cheap. If you do book it make sure you are not in rooms 412 or 413 as these are attached to the gate house which has huge electric gates which make a tremendous noise every time they are opened, and they are opened a lot at all times of the day and night. The breakfast is expensive having items like champagne and a chocolate fountain on the menu, but excellent food can be had just around the corner. try the short boat trip around the canals and maybe hire a bike to travel along the canal side to the beautiful village of Damme (only 5k) Tante Marie%26#39;s is a fabulous cafe. enjoy.

I would recommend a day trip to Ostend.

Only 15 minutes by train.

If you like the romantic city Bruges...but you don%26#39;t like the crowd... well Ghent is the best alternative and i find it more interesting and more active. Ghent is only 1 hour driving from Bruges and verry easy to visit if you want to take the train.

Look for info at www.hotelghent.be (still unter construction but it can help allready)

Kind Regards,

Luc
