one day and one night in brussels in May

I will arrive by plane at 7:30 am and leave the next day at 7:30 am.

Where should I stay? What should I do? Where should I eat?

Have you looked at the Insider Pages on this website?

Try entering %26quot;hotel%26quot;, %26quot;restaurant%26quot;, %26quot;must see%26quot; and such into the forum search ... it%26#39;s your vacation, you have to do some legwork.

Also, both Fodors.com and Frommers.com have %26quot;Destinations%26quot; on their sites, so find Brussels and all the %26quot;must sees%26quot; will be there, as well as hotels and restaurants.

Brussels is a business-oriented city, so hotel rates will often be higher on weekdays than weekends. Most people like to stay around Grand Place, so anywhere between Gare Central and rue du Vieux Marche aux Grains is central.

Stay at the Meridien as it will place you centrally located to everyting and is easily accessible from the airport (take the airport train to Brussels central starion and you are right across the street.) From that hotel you can walk to the Grand Place (2 minutes), the Sablon (10 minutes) and all the museums in that area. Those two areas should keep you busy with things to do.

If you want more, from the Sablon turn right uphill toward the Palais du Justice ( the big building with the Scaffolding) and you can see a view of the city. If you turn left at the Palais, you will run into Ave Toison D%26#39;Or where all the high end shopping is (or straight ahead following the tram tracks) is Avenue Louise, another very good shopping area.

A secondary hotel option besides the Meridien is the Amigo located on the Sablon, also well located to all the tourist destinations. You will find many other suggestions on this website. The two hotels I mention here are the best location and quality for the price in my humble opinion.

I very much enjoyed the Novotel off Grand Place which is right next store to Le Meridien and has more reasonable prices. You can see a lot in one day as the city is compact. Off course see Grand Place (steps from Novotel or Meridien), Grand Sablon (wonderful antique market on Saturday), Halles St. Gery, Rue Neuve for nearby shopping. St. Hubert for enclosed shopping at boutiques and reasonably priced cafes. Avoid Rue de Boucher for food. Have fun!
