Upcoming trip at the end of the month, early April.
We have two days in Brussels, two days in Brugge, and one day in Antwerp. We%26#39;d like to spend one day in a smaller town, something that exemplifies a smaller Belgian town.
Any suggestions?

Leuven is pretty. It%26#39;s a university town that is very much alive. There%26#39;s a lot to see in terms of art, history and architecture. IMO Leuven has the most beautiful city hall in Belgium.

Lier is also pretty.

Having lived in Antwerp and Bruges, twenty years ago we moved to Ieper (Ypres), one of the three large cities of the county of Flanders in the middle ages. We now enjoy this quiet historic province town in the centre of the Ypres%26#39; Salient. Great place.
