I am travelling for 10 days and wish to know which city to reside in. Should I stay in one and do side trips from there or do both with selective side trips? Which side trips would be best and from which city?
Thank you,

By ALL means, I would pick Amsterdam. There is enough there to keep you busy for a week. For me, Brussels has some interesting sights, but they can all be easily seen within a single day.
With that said, Brussels is probably a more central location if you wanted to do day trips. Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent, and even Paris and Cologne are easy day trips by train. Amsterdam is somewhat more limited in the number of unique day-trips. The best are probably Haarlem and Den Haag (both about 30-45 minutes each way by train).
I would suggest basing in Amsterdam for 6 days or so, seeing the surrounding areas, and then moving to Brussels. Better yet, stay in Bruges and take a day trip to Brussels. Maybe stop and spend a night in Antwerp on your way between the two.
I%26#39;ve travelled in the area somewhat, and just took a similar trip as you%26#39;re envisioning, so let me know if you need any more advice!
