Bruges or Brussels

After ending a river cruise in Prague Apr 17th we are thinking of takeing a train to either Bruges or Brussels and using it to take day trips to Amsterdam or The Hague or surrounding area. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best place to use as a central point, or is Brussels the best place. We only have from Apr 17th to the 21st when we take the train to Paris for 5 days

I%26#39;m a little bit worried you confuse Belgium (Brussels/Bruges) with the Netherlands (Amsterdam / The Hague) ...

from a turist point of view, Bruges is much better than Brussels, however as far as I know, there%26#39;s no comfortable way to do your day trips to Holland from Bruges, at least with train, directly. From Bruges the train would have to pass to Brussels.

You could stay in Brussels but keep in mind that to get to A%26#39;dam by train it would take at least 2.5 hours, so for a day trip it would not be very long...

You would be much better staying in Brussels. The train links to Lille, Paris and Holland are much better than from Brugge. You can easily take a train to Brugge for the day from Brussels (around 50 mins)

Brussels hotels are very cheap fri-sun and expensive midweek except during holiday periods eg easter, May bank holidays and July-August
