I have been offered a home swap in Kontich, for 1 week in summer, %26amp; would be very grateful for any information on the area. It%26#39;s not a place i ever considered visiting previously, but looking at some websites, Antwerp %26amp; surrounding areas do look very interesting.
Is it close to the centre on public transport, for example? I%26#39;d be very grateful for any information, thanks.

Hi Isparky,
Kontich has it%26#39;s own train station and is linked with antwerp center by train (shortest travel time 15 min). It takes from the town 57 min to Brussels by train but shorter if you travel to Antwerp center first and than switch trains.
It%26#39;s a nice region and also close to the motorway Antwerp-Brussels.
I have no info about the local sightseeing (because I live at the coastal region of Belgium) Enjoy your holiday !

I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s particularly much to see in Kontich itself, which is a rural village. But you%26#39;re close to Antwerpen, Lier and Mechelen which are all very pretty cities. In Belgum you%26#39;re never far away from anything as our country is so small and public transportation is very good if you don%26#39;t like to drive.

Thank you Duke %26amp; Amboseli for your very helpful advice. Due to illness i can%26#39;t walk for great distances, nor can i drive, so i was worried i wouldn%26#39;t be able to get around easily, but it seems it won%26#39;t be a problem.
I note Amboseli that you are the expert for Antwerp, so if you have any more tips or information about the area, or getting around, it would be very welcome. I am hoping to try to get to visit Brussels, Ghent %26amp; Bruges %26amp; i see Dinant is also recommendedas a place to see. Do you think i will be able to manage it without a car? Many
Thanks again, JJ.

You can reach Dinant by train in 2 1/2 hours from Kontich, changing at Bruxelles-Nord. Just put Kontich and Dinant, a likely time of travel and a likely date (weekday or weekend) into here: http://www.b-rail.be/main/E/
According to this, www.citadellededinant.be/gb/infos03.htm, the railway station is just 250m from the station - and the station is next to the bus station, there may well be buses to the cathedral which is near the starting point for the funicular (I think it is, could be a cable car up to the citadel.
