Sim Cards

Hello,

I will be starting my trip in Brussels but going to a few other countries and must have access to a cell phone. I normally purchase a local sim card for what ever country I am in since I already own an unlocked GSM phone. Since I will be in several countries this year is there an international sim card that I can purchase in Brussels? How much would it cost? Some US web sites are selling international sim cards for $50USD-$100USD.

I know it would be cheaper to make local calls with a local sim card but most of my calls will be to the US.

Thank you,

Tami

It is probably best to buy a SIM card for each country you are in if you will be making a lot of calls from within that country. The calls country to country are about the same with all the cards. Where you get killed is on the roaming charges. Belgium does not have a card with free international roaming for countries apart from Belgium (nor does any European country that I know of.) The best deal for a SIM card is with BASE in Belgium. You can top up the card anywhere. There is a BASE shop located on Avenue Louise at the Place Stephanie corner (a place easy to get to via tram, metro or Bus.) You can proably buy a BASE basic card at the aiport as well. The cost is 30 euros for 120 minutes of in country calls. If you start roaming even as close as The Netherlands the cost per minute jumps to around 1.50. If you call from Belgium to other European countries (or to the US) the cost per minute is 0.65/minute. You can check out their site at www. base.be
