Sky Sports in Ypres?

I%26#39;m in Ypres on a school trip over the bank holiday weekend but it%26#39;s been arranged over the last day of the championship season.

I need to try and find somewhere to see the live sky games at approx 1pm. Any ideas?

There is an Irish pub in Ieper, but I don%26#39;t know whether it has TV at all: The Old Bill Pub, Sint-Jacobsstraat 10, 8900 Ieper

|||

Any idea of phone number? Struggling on the net.

|||

Sorry, I didn%26#39;t find a result in the (paper and online) telephone directories for the Old Bill Pub.

No I didn%26#39;t find it either, and it%26#39;s a bit worrying that the name doesn%26#39;t show up in a list of 58 pubs in Ieper!! (www.goldenpages.be/search/Ieper/Pubs.html)

There%26#39;s a pub with a possibly English name, The Times, Korte Torhoutstraat 7, tel 057 20 99 30, but it%26#39;s a serious beer connoisseurs%26#39; pub which normally means no sports on TV.

It did occur to me this afternoon that betting shops may show the match too, so another possibility is Ladbrokes, Boterstraat 58, 8900 Ieper, tel. 057 20 06 63 (from the UK, drop the 0 and add 32 for Belgium, of course).

Otherwise you could ask the Ieper tourist office if THEY know of a pub or café that shows sports on TV:

Dienst Toerisme, Grote Markt 34, 8900 Ieper

Tel: +32 (0)57 239 220, Fax: +32 (0)57 239 275, E-mail: toerisme@ieper.be

The Old Bill pub tel number is 0477/28 49 37. I don%26#39;t recall it having Sky. Nor is it an Irish pub- it is very much a locals haunt. If you want a pint of Guinness on draft go to the Shell Hole. A lot of the larger hotels do show satellite including the novotel and Hotel Ariane.

Hi,

They do show live sports in The Old Bill Pub, they have both a beamer and a TV set for broadcasting sports.

I can%26#39;t really agree with barneysdad, as a lot of British people go there. The pub is almost across Novotel, so I guess that partially explains it.

I was there last Saturday and there was a pipe band from Liverpool playing the pipes inside(!) the pub ; very loud of course, but there was great ambiance with a lot of singing along and a LOT of drinking. :-) I don%26#39;t remember everything from that night, except I must have left at around 4 AM. :-))

Oh, and they do serve Guinness on draft too.

Yes, try the Sante bar (sports bar) in Ypres, Fanny and Patrick runs it and they speak good engish like most Belgiums.

John

Patrick IS English!

I do find it rather sad that you brits have to have the football on - you have come with the children to explore and teach them about WW1 and what occured here, so they NEVER FORGET the horrors of what went on NOT Football - its only TV!!!
