Brugge and Antwerp

I have Sunday April 1st and Monday April 2nd to see Antwerp and Brugge. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which city to see on what date?

Shops in Belgium are closed on Sundays although in Antwerp many diamond shops are open as they are run by Orthodox jews who close on Saturday instead, and in addition tourist shops, of which there are quite a few in Brugge, are open. Museums on the other hand are usually closed on Mondays and open Sundays although if there is a specific one that interests you you must check this as there is some variation (e.g. Rubens%26#39; House in Antwerp is closed on Sunday and open Monday)..

As you would normally visit Brugge more for the sights than the shops, while Antwerp is an interesting place to shop in, I would suggest visiting Brugge on the Sunday and Antwerp on the Monday.

In addition, if going by train from Brussels, as it is slightly more expensive to go to Brugge it is slightly more advantageous to get the weekend return price for Brugge (12.80 EUR at weekends so over 25 EUR per adult on Mondays) than for Antwerp (but only EVER so slightly, as the weekend return fare from Brussels to Antwerp is 12.20 EUR).

Unless, of course, you specifically want to visit a museum in Antwerp that is closed on Monday, e.g. the Flemish Primitives exhibition that transferred from the National Gallery of Art in Washington where it had the title %26quot;Prayers and Portraits, Unfolding the Netherlandish Diptych%26quot;. In which case you would want to go to Antwerp on the Sunday, and to buy a B-excursion ticket for €22.70 which includes train Brussels-Antwerp plus tram/bus from the station to the fine arts museum plus exhibition ticket (see http://www.kmska.be/Home_NL.aspx).

Really it is up to you to work out what you want to see in which place and how this affects your choice of Sunday or Monday!!

Bruges is alive on a Sunday and in coma on a monday as it is not a business city and museums are closed (exept for Belfry, city hall, chocolate, brewery, lace and diamond museum.)
