Rugs, carpet shops in Brussels

Hello,

I%26#39;m taking my family to Brussels for long weekend in April (Easter holidays). As it%26#39;s my first trip to Belgium i wanted to know if there are any shops where i could buy rugs/runners for my newly furnished house...it%26#39;s leisurely weekend, but i wanted to combine holiday %26amp; shopping ...you see the rugs/runners are very expensive here in England, so i%26#39;ll be looking frwrd for yr suggestions.

many thanks in advance

For a start, do not expect any household goods to be cheaper in Belgium than in the UK: just remember that Belgium as a whole has a population of 10 million, about the same as London, while Brussels is only 1 million, so it%26#39;s a tiny market and economies of scale are apparently not possible. On top of that, VAT in Belgium is 21%, slightly higher than in the UK.

The cheapest places to look would be somewhere like Carpetland but these are often in suburban locations that you would find hard to get to, the most convenient (not sure if it is that chain but v. similar) would be next to the Carrefour at Demey metro station, coming from the centre of town exit the metro station to the left and left again, you will come out opposite Brico then turn right and you will see the carpet shop. You could also look at this http://www.achaouico.com/, although I%26#39;m not sure it%26#39;s the sort of thing you want.
