Are Brussels stores and restaurants open on public holidays?

My boyfriend and I will be going to Brussels for a day trip and probably will be on May 8, 2007. And we realize that it is Victoire Day and is a public holiday. We will stay at Paris first and we found that most places will be closed in Paris on that Tuesday, so does anyone know if this is true for Brussels as well?

May 8th is not a public holiday in Belgium so you should have no problems with the stores being closed.
