Hi
Am moving to Brussels soon for the summer, just wondering if there are any Tesco, Marks %26amp; Spencer or similar type supermarkets in Brussels. I think I read that the Marks might have closed?
Also if anyone knows of any hockey clubs that play non-serious summer hockey Id be grateful for some info.
Thanks a mil

Marks closed its Brussels (and Paris, Madrid, Seville etc.) shop years ago, more%26#39;s the pity, Tesco has never been here. Local supermarket chains include Carrefour, Delhaize, GB, Match, etc. I really don%26#39;t know what you mean by %26quot;similar type%26quot; to Tesco and M%26amp;S and those two don%26#39;t seem to me to be similar in the first place. However, you certainly will not find the same quantity of ready meals in Belgium as you do in the UK, I don%26#39;t know about Ireland.
For hockey clubs see http://www.xpats.com/directory/directory_display.php?categorie=179%26amp;dircat=xPATs+Clubs

It is true that M%26amp;S pulled out of the continent about 4 years ago. In Brussels there is a store called Stone Manor, which carried British food products. I haven%26#39;t been there myself, but I have friends who frequent it.
They have a website, so you can probably %26#39;google%26#39; it.
Carrefour is now carrying a couple of lines of prepared meals, but I haven%26#39;t tried any. Carrefour is similar in size to a large Tesco, but not with extensive sections of prepared meals. I%26#39;ve only bought prepared pastas and frozen pizzas for a %26#39;choosy%26#39; teenager.

Thanks a million. What I meant by similar type was really just a place offering a wide range of choice to be honest. Fresh fruit, meat, ready meals, canned items in one place. Given the large UK presence in Brussels I thought Tesco might be there and am sorry to hear M%26amp;S is gone. They are UK brands that we have in Ireland so I know their range of items, thats why I asked. But Im sure I will find all I need in the other chains.
Thanks for the hockey link - thats really helpful.

Hi Meenamara
I live in sunne Belge and play hockey...Summer hockey is a bit thin on the ground, unfortunately. As in the UK it%26#39;s a winter sport but is not played over holiday periods eg Krokus Vakantie (Feb Half Term), Easter etc. The season stops March/April. Therefore in summer (July/Aug) everyone is on holiday. The only hockey played is friendly tournaments etc of which there are loads. Its best to join/contact a club and get youself into a team for some tournaments.
Where in Brussels are you moving to? Most of the clubs in Belge are based in Brussels. They are mostly Francophone but English is spoken by 99.9% of players. Standards of hockey generally are pretty low but the top 4 teams at 1st XI level are very good.
